The Free Laptop Yojana has been started by the Chief Minister of West Bengal on 3rd December. Through this Yojana, the government aims to provide online education facilities to the economically weaker section of the state. 9.5 Lakhs Free Tablets will be distributed by the West Bengal government to the students studying in the 12th class. This will help the student to continue their education. These free tablets will be provided to the students who are studying in Government schools are government-aided schools or Madrasa. Student studying in every Secondary School will be provided with free tablets by the government.

The scheme has been started by the West Bengal government to provide education facilities to the poor class people of the state. Through this Yojana, the government aims to distribute free tablets to the twelfth class students studying in Government schools, government-aided schools, and Madrasa of poor families. This will help these students to continue their education without any obstruction. Through this Yojana, the government targets the overall development of the state. Students of the state can now avail themselves of the latest and best education by using these free tablets.

Other Information Released by the Government

Much other information related to the development of the state has been shared by the government with the people. As per the government, an increase of 133% growth has been recorded in the Information Technology firms (IT Firms) in the West Bengal State in the last 8 years. IT export has shown a rise of 175%. The government has also decided to invest a number of rupees 3000 crores in setting up various IT offices at Bengal Silicon Valley Hub. These IT offices will directly provide employment opportunities to more than 9000 IT professionals.  At present, over 1500 IT companies, including Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, and IBM among others, have their offices in West Bengal. The state has around 2.1 lakh IT professionals. Tata Consultancy Services is expected to increase their employment from the present 44,000 to around 61,000. Cognizant Technology Solutions is also expected to expand further.

WB Free Tablet Scheme Eligibility

To be eligible for the scheme, the applicant has to be:

  • A permanent residence of West Bengal State.
  • The candidate must be studying in a Government School, Government-Aided school, or Madrasa.
  • A student must be studying in the 12th class.
  • The annual income of the candidate’s parents must be less than 2 lakhs.
  • All the previous examinations must be cleared before by the applicant.
