With the increasing population and also pollution the traffic in Delhi is increasing day by day. The traffic in Delhi is so crowded that for a normal destination approximately 2-3 hours are wasted on the traffic. And also to cover just close distance people are making use of four-wheelers. So to eliminate these criteria the Delhi government implemented the Odd-Even scheme in the year 2016. And now in the year 2019 also the scheme has been implemented for the third time. The Delhi Odd-Even was implemented by the Delhi city Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal in the year 2016. The scheme was launched to eliminate traffic in Delhi. The scheme first came into force in the year 2016 and gain huge success since then. Under the scheme, days were fixed for certain vehicles. If your vehicle’s number plate ends with an odd number then certain days were fixed and if it ends with an even number and the remaining days were fixed. All the information about the scheme was given to the residents of the city accordingly.

Benefits Of The Scheme

By implementing the Odd and Even scheme for the Delhi city many benefits were being availed by the whole city:-

  • First and foremost the scheme helped the Delhi city to eliminate the traffic problems.
  • The scheme helped in the development of the city to an extent.
  • It also helped in the successful implementation of traffic rules.
  • Because of the constant fear of fine people starting following proper rules.

Launch Date Of The Scheme

The odd and even scheme this time will be implemented for the third time in Delhi city because of the increasing traffic. It is said that the scheme is ready to be implemented from 4th November 2019 to 15th November 2019. The scheme will only be implemented for 12 days because the scheme will cause a bit of trouble for the residents of the city. Also as announced by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal the scheme will only be implemented on the following timings – Starting from 8 a.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m

Exemption From Odd Even Scheme

Delhi city is a big city and in that city lives many different kinds of people, for example, all the presidents, vice presidents and the people belonging to the Indian Government residency. So certain exemptions are made from the odd and even scheme and the people who are exempted from the scheme are given below in the following list:-

  • Vice President
  • Prime Minister
  • Governors
  • CJI
  • Speaker of Lok Sabha
  • Vehicles of union ministers
  • Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha Leaders of Opposition
  • Vehicles of Chief Ministers of States & UTs
  • Vehicles of Supreme Court Judges
  • UPSC Chairperson
  • Chief Election Commissioner
  • Election Commissioners
  • CAG
  • Dy Chairman Rajya Sabha
  • Dy Speaker of Lok Sabha
  • Lt Governor of Delhi
  • Judges of Delhi High Court
  • Lokayukta
  • Vehicles carrying school students
  • Women only vehicles

As announced by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal two-wheelers such as Bike, Scooty should also be exempted from the Odd and Even scheme. The Odd and Even scheme is only for the people driving four-wheelers on the roads of Delhi city.

Fines In Delhi Odd Even Scheme

As mentioned above if you do not follow the odd and even traffic rules. Then you must be imposed by certain fines. Talking about 2016 when the Odd and Even scheme was originally launched by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal the amount of the fine was just Rupees 2000. But now as the Odd and Even scheme is relaunch in the year 2019, the fine amount has been increased from Rupees 2000 to Rupees 4000. So, now if you are booked under any charges or you are found not following the Odd and Even scheme you will be charged with Rupees 4000.
